Because the same job is not the same work on two machines. Outdoors there are two large variables before a part is named: what the machine is set into, and how long the salt has been working on it. Either can change the hour, and a seized fixing can change it more than the component being replaced. The exact cost is confirmed on site, in writing, before anything is opened.

### Is the diagnostic on top of this?

The diagnostic is from $95 and it comes off the repair when you go ahead. Where the finding is that the machine is not worth mending — or that the problem belongs to the gas supply or the building's power rather than to the appliance — you have paid for the answer and not for a part.
