# DCS appliance installation

### Measuring the opening that exists, not the one in the brochure

On this badge an installation is rarely a delivery and usually a fit. A grill head goes into a masonry cutout somebody else made, a beverage center into an island whose ventilation path has to actually work, a cooktop into stone that does not forgive a second attempt. So the measuring happens before anything is ordered rather than on the day it arrives, and where an existing cutout is wrong for the machine intended for it, we say so while it is still a drawing. That conversation is cheap. The alternative is a slab with a hole in the wrong place and a machine standing in the garage.

What this involves

Measured against the cutout that exists, not the one in the brochure

Ventilation and clearance treated as part of the install, because they decide whether it works

Gas connection and leak check done properly and documented

Measure the opening and the route to it

Width, depth, corner radius, the clearance the machine requires and the doorways and steps it has to pass on the way. Outdoor islands are the ones that surprise people: the cutout was built for the previous machine and the flange of the new one is a quarter inch different.

Supply, ventilation and drainage before the machine goes in

Gas type and pressure confirmed, the electrical supply confirmed, the ventilation path checked as a path rather than as a pair of holes, and the drainage checked on anything that will be rained on. This is the half of an install people skip and then pay for every summer afterwards.

Fit, level, connect and prove it

Leveled in the opening, fixed the way the surround allows, connected, leak-checked on gas and then run through its functions in front of you. On outdoor equipment we finish by showing you the shutoff and the grease path, because those are the two things that matter most and are explained least.

### Can you fit a new grill into our existing island?

Often, and the answer lives in the cutout rather than in the catalog. Widths are near-standard within a generation and flange dimensions are not, so a difference of a quarter inch decides whether it drops in or whether somebody is cutting stone. We measure before anything is ordered.

### Do you handle the gas connection?

Yes, and every joint we disturb is leak-tested and the result written down. Where the work needed is further upstream than the appliance and its connection — a supply that cannot deliver, a run that needs replacing inside masonry — we say so rather than improvising on somebody's gas.
