### One ring wrong is local; every ring wrong is upstream

This is one of the few genuinely quick visits on the site, and the reason it sometimes is not quick is that the problem was never the burners. A single uneven ring is the cap seating or the ports, both correctable and both visible once it is cold. Every burner lazy at once is a supply or a regulator and no amount of cleaning changes it. There is also a second symptom worth raising in the same call, because it is the most commonly missed item on a gas top: a burner that lights strongly and will not hold a low flame has a separate problem that only appears at the bottom of its range.

Strip, clear and inspect each burner

Ports cleared properly rather than poked, caps checked for seating and for coating damage, and the burner base checked for the corrosion that follows a long-standing spill.

Check the simmer, not just the light

A burner that lights well and will not hold a low flame has a different problem and it only appears at the bottom of the range. It is the single most common thing left undiagnosed on a gas top.

Prove the set together

All burners lit at once, then at minimum together. Problems that only show under combined load are supply problems and we would rather find them now.

### Can I clear the ports myself?

With something soft, yes. Not with a pin or a wire — those enlarge the port permanently, and an oversized port burns differently for the rest of that burner's life. A soft brush and patience handles all but the worst.

### The caps went through the dishwasher.

It is common and it strips the finish that keeps them behaving consistently. The burner never quite returns to how it was. It is not a disaster — they are a modest part — but it explains a hob that has never been right since a thorough clean.
