# DCS hood light and control repair

### Outdoors a dead light is water, not a bulb

Indoors a lamp that has stopped is usually a lamp. On a terrace it is usually water — in a socket, in a connector, in a switch housing that has been taking rain for three years. The distinction matters because corrosion travels along a loom underneath the insulation, so by the time a light fails the damage has generally moved past the fitting. Replacing lamps into a corroded socket is how this becomes an annual event rather than a repair. We trace the circuit back to material that is still sound, replace from there, and then re-route and seal it so that water leaves rather than collects.

We follow the circuit to where it is still sound and replace back from there, rather than cutting in at the symptom and leaving green wire behind the panel.

Seal and route it so it survives the next season

Connections remade, sealed where the design intends, and routed so water leaves rather than collects. Outdoors, routing is half the repair.

### Why do new bulbs keep failing?

Because the socket rather than the lamp is what has gone. A corroded holder makes a poor connection, the connection runs hot, and lamps fail early in a way that looks like bad luck. Fitting another lamp into it is the definition of a repair that does not last.

### Is it worth fixing lights we rarely use?

It is worth looking at, because on outdoor equipment a lighting problem is usually the first visible symptom of water getting somewhere it should not. Left alone it stops being a lighting matter and becomes a housing one.
