# DCS induction zone and coil repair

### One zone dead is the tidiest evidence on this site

If the supply were wrong every zone would misbehave; if the main control had failed the top would be dark. A single dead zone among healthy ones is unusually clean evidence and it means the machine is opened already knowing which third of it to examine. Before that there is a check worth doing at home, because it settles a real share of these calls: a pan whose base is not ferrous, or has bowed so it sits only on its rim, will fail on any zone and fail most obviously on the smallest. A magnet answers it in ten seconds. After that, connections and sensing are examined before coils, because they fail considerably more often.

Open and follow the chain

Coil, its connections, the power stage that drives it, and the temperature sensing attached to it. Connections and sensing fail far more often than coils do.

Cooling, then a full-load test

Fans and airways cleared, then every zone run under real load together. Induction problems that only appear when several zones are working are cooling problems nine times in ten.

### Could the glass be the problem?

It can be, and a crack that has not reached the surface is not always visible. If the top has been struck or had something heavy dropped on it, say so — it changes both the diagnosis and what we bring.

### It works alone and drops out when other zones are running.

That is a cooling problem rather than a zone problem, and it is both cheaper and more commonly missed. Fans and airways are checked before anything is ordered.
