Almost always, and it tells us the pitting is where the runner is least used rather than where the most weight sits. Does the door close square? Look at the gap top and bottom. A door closing out of square is a hinge or a cabinet problem, and the hardware is a symptom. On a pitted one it masks the symptom while the abrasion continues, and most sprays attract more salt and grit than they repel. Fresh water and drying does more good, and where the runner has pitted, replacement is the honest answer. ### Can the runners be upgraded? The right grade for a marine-adjacent install is not always what was fitted, particularly on islands assembled by a general contractor.
