Most of the value is in the duct, not the filters
Filters are the visible half and they matter — over high-output burners or a griddle they load fast, and a saturated baffle is both a restriction and fuel sitting above open flame. But the half that defeats a hood entirely is inside the building: flexible ducting crushed by somebody working in a tight ceiling, a joint that separated years ago and now vents into a void, an exterior cap whose flap has corroded shut or been painted over. A perfectly healthy blower proves nothing against any of those, which is why the route is followed rather than the fan tested and declared sound.
