Take the drawer out and look at the runner, not the drawer
The drawer is almost never the problem. Runners are inspected along their full travel, where the pitting is always worse at the back.

Replace what is pitted, treat what is not
Sound hardware is cleaned and given a protection appropriate to an outdoor install. Pitted hardware is replaced, because it will not recover and it damages what it runs against.

Reset the alignment and the closing
A door that closes square keeps water out and a hinge alive. Alignment is set at the end rather than assumed to have survived the work.

They sit in the same salt-laden air with nothing to dry them, they are precision moving parts, and they are expected to work for a decade. The progression is predictable — stiff, then sticky, then forced, then a bent front or a frame pulled out of square — and the cost rises sharply at the third step. Caught while it is stiff this is the cheapest work on the island; caught after somebody has put their shoulder into it, it is cabinet work. Can runners be cleaned rather than replaced?
While it is only a salt film, yes, and fresh water and drying does more good than any spray. Once the surface has pitted, cleaning buys weeks: the bearings run on damage that does not reverse, and the runner wears what it runs against.
Is there better hardware for a waterfront island?
There is, and it is frequently not what was fitted — islands assembled by a general contractor often carry general-purpose fixings. Where we are replacing anyway, the right grade costs a little more and lasts considerably longer.
