Water in a DCS outdoor kitchen cabinet. An outdoor island is designed to shed water rather than to exclude it, so a little after heavy rain is not automatically a defect — where it collects and whether it leaves are the questions. Water sitting in the base of a cabinet that houses gas fittings and electrical connections is a different matter from water running through and away, and this is one of the few cosmetic-looking problems on the site that we would rather see sooner than later.

What to do in the next ten minutes
Take everything out of the cabinet and see where the water actually is — the base, a corner, or running down one wall. Look for the drain path: most islands have one, and most blocked ones are blocked with debris you can reach. Note whether it appears after rain, after irrigation, or all the time. That distinction is most of the diagnosis.
Shedding, not sealing
An outdoor island is not a sealed box and is not meant to be — it is built to let water find its way out, which is why there are gaps and weeps in places that look like defects. The failure mode is not water getting in; it is water not getting out. That reframes the repair: we are usually clearing and re-establishing a path rather than trying to make the cabinet watertight, which would not work and would trap what does get in.
Why we treat it as more than cosmetic
Inside that cabinet are gas fittings, a flexible connector and usually some wiring. None of them was designed to be immersed. Standing water shortens all of their lives quietly and invisibly, and the first visible symptom is frequently an ignition problem or a light that has stopped working, months later, with nobody connecting it to the puddle.

Can I just drill a drain hole?
Sometimes that is genuinely the answer, and sometimes it puts a hole through a membrane or into a gas run. We would rather look at where the island actually drains before anybody makes a new opening in it — the existing path is usually there and blocked.
Should I be storing things in there?
Lightly. Anything absorbent — bags of charcoal, cloths, cardboard — holds water against the cabinet and against whatever is behind it. Tools and accessories are fine; things that soak are not.
